The SulFerox®
process converts H2S directly to elemental SulfurSulFerox® is an Redox process
in wich the H2S is directly oxidised to elemental Sulfur
while the ferric ions are reduced. These are subsequently regenerated
by oxidation with air. The recovered sulfur cake as normally a
moisture content of approximately 30%. A higher purlty sulfur product
can be obtained by additionnal washing and melting of the cake. The SulFerox®
process can be used for the treatment of H2S, in gases such
as natural gas, amine unit regenerator of gas, syngaz treatment,
geothermal gas streams and carbon dioxide purification, refinery fuel
gas, hydrogen recycle, coke oven gas desulfurisation ...
More than 30 SulFerox® units are currently in operation covering a wide range of gas treating applications.

......................
The SulFerox®
has the following advantages over other technologies :
The process for high pressure application
- Direct conversion of H2S to Sulfur in one steps. Thus, avoiding the combination of absorption and Sulfur recovery units.
- Less than 1 ppmv of H2S in the treated gas can be achieved without the need of further treatment for envirommental impact.
- Large turndown in gas flow and/or inlet H2S concentration.
- Very selective H2S removal as hardly any CO2 will be removed.
- The lowest investment cost in Redox type technology.
- Furthermore SHELL ensures long term support to process licensees. THE DOWN COMPANY supplies the chemicals and performs solvent analyses.
For regenerator offgas applications, the flow scheme can be simplified
